Alumni and Donor Engagement Specialist

The Society is seeking an Alumni and Donor Engagement Specialist to support the Advancement team.

We value strong analytical and interpersonal skills and the ability to contribute to a fast-paced environment as an individual and as part of a team.

To perform the job successfully, the candidate must demonstrate experience with:

  • strategic engagement planning, including timelines, schedules, and tasks.
  • database management and analytics.
  • content creation and distribution.
  • event planning and logistics.

This position will report to the Director of Alumni Relations. This is a non-exempt position.

Responsibilities

  • Design and update the newsletter, the alumni community platform and the Society’s social accounts
  • Management and upkeep of alumni contacts, biographic and engagement information stored in theSociety’s constituent database (Microsoft Dynamics)
  • Strategic thinker who uses data to tell a story and provide clearly articulated insights
  • Conduct research on alumni for speaking roles, strategic partnerships, leadership opportunities on keycommittees, and other programming where the Society community is involved
  • Provide logistical and staff support for all alumni events, including invitation management andcollecting registrations (10-15 events per year)

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to handle changing priorities and deadlines
  • A high attention to detail and demonstrative proactive approaches to daily tasks
  • Ability to develop rapport with colleagues and external clients
  • Database experience is preferred in Microsoft Dynamics
  • Affinity for the mission of the Society for Science

    Work Environment

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee usually works in an office setting. Our office is located near the Dupont Circle and Farragut North Metro stations. The Society is operating on a hybrid schedule.

    Physical Demands

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to operate a computer and other office equipment.

    Position Type and Expected Hours

    This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday during normal office hours of the Society. Light travel for some of the organization’s events is necessary in this position.

    Required Education and Experience

    Bachelor’s degree and 2-4 years of experience in alumni affairs, volunteer and event planning, fundraising, public relations or a related field.

    Salary Range

    $55,000 – $65,000; salary is commensurate with experience.

    Additional Information

    Society for Science has mandated the COVID-19 vaccine for employees coming into the office and attending Society events. Exceptions to the vaccine requirement may be provided to individuals for religious beliefs or medical reasons.
