Albuquerque Academy 9th grader, Akilan Sankaran loves walking the halls and beautiful campus of his school in Albuquerque, New Mexico, a place that he says has afforded him many opportunities to learn about new concepts and ideas. One of the disciplines Akilan enjoys most is mathematics. He also loves physics and space science, and one day hopes to be an astrophysicist.

Broadcom Foundation and Society for Science today announced that Akilan Sankaran, 14, from Albuquerque, New Mexico, won the coveted $25,000 Samueli Foundation Prize, the top award in the Broadcom MASTERS®, the nation’s premier science and engineering competition for middle school students. Akilan is the first student with a math project in the competition’s 11-year history to take home the Samueli Foundation Prize.

Society for Science and Regeneron announced Grand Awards of the Regeneron ISEF 2021. Student winners are in ninth through twelfth grades who earned the right to compete at the Regeneron ISEF 2021 by winning a top prize at a local, regional, state or national science fair.
