2020 Finalists

Society for Science & the Public (the Society) and Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. congratulate the 40 finalists in the Regeneron Science Talent Search 2020, the nation’s oldest and most prestigious science and math competition for high school seniors. The 2020 finalists were selected from 1,993 highly qualified entrants based on their projects’ scientific rigor and their potential to become world-changing scientists and leaders. Each finalist is awarded at least $25,000, and the top 10 awards range from $40,000 to $250,000.

ISEF Categories and Subcategories

The following 22 categories and subcategories are those that will be used at ISEF 2026, Phoenix, Arizona.

Physics and Astronomy (Code: PHYS)

ISEF Category: Physics is the science of matter and energy and of interactions between the two. Astronomy is the study of anything in the universe beyond the Earth.

Chemistry

Studies exploring the science of the composition, structure, properties, and reactions of matter not involving biochemical systems.

Biochemistry

ISEF CATEGORY: BIOCHEMISTRY (Code: BCHM)

The study of the chemical basis of processes occurring in living organisms, including the processes by which these substances enter into, or are formed in, the organisms and react with each other and the environment.

Earth & Environmental Sciences

Studies of the environment and its effect on organisms/systems, including investigations of biological processes such as growth and life span, as well as studies of Earth systems and their evolution.
