Society for Science awards $274,000 to 84 teachers across 36 states, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and Mexico to help them mentor and support students who are interested in STEM research. More than 5,000 underserved students have been supported through the Society’s Advocate Program.

Broadcom Foundation and Society for Science today announced that Akilan Sankaran, 14, from Albuquerque, New Mexico, won the coveted $25,000 Samueli Foundation Prize, the top award in the Broadcom MASTERS®, the nation’s premier science and engineering competition for middle school students. Akilan is the first student with a math project in the competition’s 11-year history to take home the Samueli Foundation Prize.
