One middle school student received the Lemelson Early Inventor prize for his work creating a headband that alerts people when someone falls. The band also provides protection to a person’s head when they fall. The student was inspired to create this invention by his grandmother, who had Parkinson’s Disease.

Students gathered in Atlanta, Georgia for Broadcom MASTERS International, where they forged friendships, worked together and learned from each other.

Students went on exciting field trips to the Georgia Aquarium, Mercedes Benz Stadium and Atlanta Botanical Garden during Broadcom MASTERS International. They even designed and 3D printed luggage tags on a tour of the Georgia Institute of Technology.

The 2022 Broadcom MASTERS International delegates spent a week in Atlanta, Georgia during Regeneron ISEF. The group learned about plants at the Atlanta Botanical Garden, discovered a sustainable sports arena and learned about each delegates research and cultures.

Regeneron ISEF finalists focused their research on improving mental health diagnosis and access to care. Their innovations include monitoring language use on social media and studying emotional intelligence.

The Broadcom MASTERS, the Society for Science’s premier national middle school STEM competition, awards approximately $100,000 in prizes annually, inspiring the next generation of young scientists and engineers. This includes six top awards.

The $10,000 H. Robert Horvitz Prize for Fundamental Research is awarded to the project that represents the best in fundamental research which furthers our understanding of science and/or mathematics. The project promotes the understanding of natural phenomena without clearly defined applications towards processes or products in mind. The award will be used by the winner to cover post-secondary educational expenses.
