Science News releases two e-books
Readers who want to explore some of science’s grandest topics in great depth now have the opportunity with Science News e-books.
Society for Science & the Public has teamed up with New York–based publisher Diversion Books to release topic-based collections of Science News stories in a digital format. Dimensions of Time: Science’s Quest to Understand Time in the Body, Brain and Cosmos and Einstein’s Gravity: One Big Idea Forever Changed How We Understand the Universe are now available wherever e-books are sold. Each e-book includes archival articles pulled from nearly a century’s worth of Science News reporting.
“Time and gravity — and the human attempt to understand them — have persistently been among the most fascinating topics in science for the last century. Our new e-books explore the key concepts and players in this ongoing search for knowledge,” said Eva Emerson, Editor in Chief of Science News.
Dimensions of Time covers all aspects of a concept that is familiar to all of us but hard to explain scientifically — time. Included are stories about the most precise clocks, the body’s circadian rhythms and how our brains track time. Among the enduring questions explored in the book: Is time fundamental? Why does time flow just one way? And are there time travelers among us?
The release of Einstein’s Gravity follows the announcement of the breakthrough detection of gravitational waves by the Advanced Laser Interferometer Gravitational–Wave Observatory. This e-book includes the full history of that search, and also covers the early reactions to general relativity and the tests that have confirmed the theory again and again. An impressive attempt to explain the theory using only one-syllable words dates to the 1920s.
