About Susan Kayser

Susan Kayser was the first woman to receive a doctoral degree in astronomy from Caltech. Kayser was originally rejected from the program because she was a woman, but convinced the school to let her audit classes and eventually earned her degree. Kayser went on to work for NASA on the Helios and ISEE-3 (ICE) projects. She also worked on the Gemini Telescopes for the National Science Foundation. Kayser is a member of the American Astronomical Society and the American Geophysical Union. She competed in the 1956 STS.
