About Adam Fuhrmann
A three-time ISEF finalist (2004, 2006 and 2007), Adam Fuhrmann greatly credits his time in high school science fairs for preparing him for his career. He holds advanced degrees in aerospace engineering from MIT, Purdue University and the U.S. Air Force Pilot School. Now a major in the U.S. Air Force, he has logged 2,100 flight hours in 27 aircraft types, including 400 combat hours. In 2025, he was one of only ten individuals selected from 8,000 applicants for the NASA Astronaut Candidate Class.
Fuhrmann is one of many Society alumni who continue to research, explore, and expand our understanding of the cosmos.
Fuhrmann was selected for the NASA 2025 Astronaut Candidate Class after 14 years of service in the US Air Force. Prior to his selection, Fuhrmann was the director of operations for a flight test unit.
Fuhrmann discusses his experience in flight tests and how he hopes to apply this knowledge as an astronaut.
