Society for Science adds two new members to National Leadership Council

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Society for Science is thrilled to announce Erica Brand and Shiv Gaglani have joined the Society’s National Leadership Council. The National Leadership Council, formed in 2018, is made up of alumni from the Society’s three science competitions: the Regeneron Science Talent Search, the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair and its middle school science research competitions.

Erica Brand (STS 1986; ISEF 1986) is Head of Strategy & Operations for Google Research’s Applied Science division where she manages programs in climate mitigation and scientific applications of machine learning. She was the lead Program Manager for the effort to create the Google Health PA and led program development for the secure silicon trusted platform modules used throughout Google designed hardware. She also supported the rollout of advanced computing for Google Cloud. Erica started her professional career as a CAD engineer in semiconductor companies and managed silicon, hardware, and software development at large and small companies. She is proud to have two patents – one in automated UI verification and one in second factor authentication. Erica earned a S.B. in Life Sciences from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an M.S. in Developmental Biology from the Stanford University School of Medicine.

Shiv Gaglani (ISEF 2004, 2005, 2006) is the co-founder & CEO of Osmosis.org, a leading health education platform that reaches millions of current and future healthcare professionals, researchers, patients, and family members. Osmosis was acquired in 2021 by Elsevier. Shiv has co-authored several books including “Success with Science: The Winners’ Guide to High School Research.” An inductee of the Forbes 30 under 30 and National Gallery for America’s Young Inventors, Shiv graduated from Harvard Business School and is on leave from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.
