Anna Pawlow

As the Director of STEM Literacy & Curriculum, Anna oversees the Science News Learning program. Her formal background in science and many years of experience in teaching and curriculum development make her passionate about the program’s goal of improving science literacy for students through the use of Science News journalism. In collaboration with Science News and Science Education Program colleagues, Anna manages the development of NGSS-aligned education resources paired to Science News articles to support and encourage teachers to integrate current STEM applications into their regular curricula.
Anna has an M.S. from the University of Maryland in Chemical and Life Sciences and a B.S. from the College of William and Mary in Chemistry. Before joining the Society in October 2016, Anna taught high school chemistry for 10 years in Washington D.C., where she was also a dean, coach and new-educator mentor. She remains passionate about developing inquiry-based high school science curricula, including labs and in-class lessons that empower students to be at the center of their own learning.
