Emily Freeland
Emily joined the Society for Science in 2019 and currently oversees all research teacher professional development programs and initiatives. Her passion for informal science education began while teaching marine science programs at various aquariums in Florida. She also gained experience in formal education as an AmeriCorps member with the City Year Orlando.
Before joining the Society, Emily worked with Learning Undefeated, a Gaithersburg, Maryland–based STEM education nonprofit that operates mobile science laboratories.
She holds a B.S. in Marine Science (Biology) from Eckerd College and an M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction (Science Education) from the University of Maryland. While at Maryland, she worked with the MADE CLEAR Learning Science Research team, focusing on climate change education.
Emily is currently completing her Ph.D. in Teaching, Learning, Policy, and Leadership, with a concentration in Science Education, at the University of Maryland. Her dissertation explores students’ perceived impacts of participating in STEM research competitions.
