Hear What Judges Have to Say About Intel ISEF

The Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) is the world’s largest international pre-college science competition. More than 1,000 judges are needed in order to review projects from the more than 1,600 finalists who will travel from around the world to compete at Intel ISEF in Los Angeles this May.

Why should you volunteer to be a judge? Because you can make a difference. “Student finalists confirm year after year that the opportunity to interview with professionals in the field of their project is the most important and rewarding element of attending Intel ISEF,” Michele Glidden, the Society’s Director of Science Education Programs, explains. We are pleased to share a few responses from past judges who echo the value they find in being part of this exchange:

  • “Judging was one of the most personally challenging, educational and rewarding experiences I have had in some time. These are truly amazing people!”
  • “I was very impressed with the quality of the projects and the motivation, dedication and enthusiasm of the students.”
  • “I cannot emphasize enough what a fantastic experience this science fair is for students and judges alike.”
  • “The experience was amazing!  It was a privilege to meet and interact with such intelligent young aspiring scientists.”
  • “I loved the projects.  What an experience to bear witness to the amazing science conducted by such bright young minds.”

Judging will take place at the Los Angeles Convention Center starting on the afternoon of Tuesday, May 13 through Wednesday, May 14, 2014.

A Grand Award Judge must have a minimum of six years related professional experience beyond receiving their B.A., B.S., or Master’s degree OR a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent (D.O., Ed.D., D.D.S., D.V.M., etc.). Judges are needed for 17 different categories.

Don’t have a science background? We also need general volunteers and interpreters for multiple languages, where no STEM experience is required.
