Fun Facts about the 2025 Thermo Fisher JIC Top 300 Junior Innovators

The 2025 Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge (Thermo Fisher JIC) is underway, and that means we are excited to announce the Top 300 Junior Innovators! Selected from nearly 2,000 applicants, each of whom ranked in the top 10% of their local science fairs, these remarkable middle school scientists and engineers come from 34 states and Puerto Rico. Check out this unique group of students who are going above and beyond in STEM. Learn more about the Top 300 Junior Innovators below!
- These innovators can certainly hold a tune. With 76% of the students participating in choir or playing an instrument.
- You can find these innovators on a court, field, a mat or in a swimming most of these innovators stay just as active in sports as they are in their research.
- Besides English, these innovators speak a plethora of different languages. With a total of 39 languages, they speak anywhere from Spanish and Arabic to Dutch and Korean!
- The majority of these Junior Innovators’ projects focus on engineering, energy & sustainability, or environmental & earth science.
- Sometimes it’s a team effort: 25% of the Innovators are in a team project!
- Community service is important to these scientists, with 60.3% are involved in their community and volunteering in activities such as starting nonprofits, fundraising and teaching the younger generation.
- When it comes to STEM career aspirations, most of these Junior Innovators hope to become medical doctors, biomedical and environmental engineers, or computer scientists.
