The Society’s 2014 Annual Report

The Society for Science & the Public invites you to explore our 2014 annual report (PDF), the first the Society has published. The report offers information about how we are working to bring together our publications and education programs in order to further our mission to inform, educate and inspire.

Highlights include:

  • Updates on our educational competitions, including two new competitions that took place in 2014
  • Stats on readership and views from our publications, Science News and Science News for Students, including Science News’ most popular story of 2014, “Health risks of e-cigarettes emerge,” which received nearly 500,000 views.
  • Positive reactions, like the Society once again being named a “Top Nonprofit” by GreatNonprofits and Alexandra Witze winning a 2014 American Institute of Physics Science Communications Award for her Science News article on magnetic dynamos.
  • Honors received by alumni including Jacob Lurie, an alumnus of the 1994 and 1995 International Science and Engineering Fairs and first place winner of the 1996 Westinghouse Science Talent Search, who won both the inaugural Breakthrough Prize in Mathematics and a MacArthur “Genius Grant” Fellowship in 2014. He is currently a professor of mathematics at Harvard University.
