Enter a Science Fiction Competition This Summer

Looking for something to do during the long days of summer? Write a science fiction short story and enter to win one of ten $1,000 prizes!

The Tomorrow Project, in collaboration with Society for Science & the Public, Arizona State University’s Center for Science and the Imagination, and the Intel Foundation, is hosting “The Future: Powered by Fiction.”

This science fiction competition, open to entrants worldwide between the ages of 13-25, asks participants to explore the kinds of futures we want to work toward together. Entries should be inspired by at least one of six themes: Earth and Beyond, The Future of Food, Smarter/Stronger/Faster, The City of Tomorrow, The Incredible Shrinking Computer, and The Future of Your Mind.

Submissions of stories, essays, videos, and comics will be accepted until November 14, 2013. Ten selected winners will each receive $1,000 and have their work published online. The selection process will emphasize “fact-based” and “science-based” attributes as well as whether the story provided a potential solution, was creative, insightful, futuristic, inspirational and engaging.

In addition, The Future: Powered by Fiction website features scientific articles, videos, podcasts, additional Tomorrow Project anthologies and more, including interviews with scientists working directly with issues that affect our future. Keep checking back frequently for more informative and informational posts about turning the fiction of today into the future of tomorrow!
