Alumni Flashback- Science Talent Search 1945

In February, Andrew Sessler, a finalist in the Science Talent Search 1945, received the Fermi Award from the Department of Energy. The Fermi Award is given to scientists that have demonstrated “distinguished achievement, leadership, and service related to all basic and applied research, science, and technology supported by the U.S. Department of Energy and its programs.”

Sessler is currently Distinguished Scientist Emeritus and Director Emeritus of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and a former president of the American Physical Society. He is the second STS alumni to receive the award; Seymour Sack, STS 1946, was a Fermi Award recipient in 2003. View photos and a full list of STS 1945 Finalists
