Ellen Cutler is the Society's Director of Event Planning. Ellen was an Account Executive and Event Designer at Occasions Caterers for 17 years, where she worked on events of all sizes, including the Candlelight Dinner for President Obama's first Inauguration, the dedication of the Disney-Tishman African Art collection at the Smithsonian, three years of BET honors, and dinners for the Secretary of Defense. During her time at Occasions, Ellen also managed the Society’s account and partnered with us on the STS Awards Galas, Awards Ceremonies for Broadcom MASTERS, and numerous holiday parties and other internal events. After leaving Occasions, she went to the Lab School of Washington as their events coordinator. In that role, she worked on their annual gala at the National Building Museum, Alumni Receptions, and all events held at the school.
She was born in Pittsburgh, Pa. but grew up in West Chester, Pa. and went to Westtown School from pre-first all the way through high-school. She attended William Smith College and majored in Political Science and minored in history. After college, she moved to Washington D.C. and attended the Georgetown School of Public Policy and worked for a few years as a social science researcher before deciding to try catering and events. That was supposed to be a temporary move. But her love for the business became evident, and she’s built a career around events ever since. Ellen lives in Silver Spring, Md. and likes both cats and dogs equally.
