Evora Swoopes has been the Receptionist at the Society since June 1992. In the fall of 2008, Evora also became the Permissions Technician for Science News and later took on the role of assisting the Internal Operations department with billing and various other tasks.
Evora arrived at the Society with a colorful career history. She received a degree in Fashion Design from American College in London (now American Intercontinental University). Evora later obtained a City & Guilds National Board of Supervisory Management certification from the City of Westminster College and a National Restaurant Association certification in Food Service Management. During her studies at City of Westminster College she was presented with an Honorable Mention by the Duke of Westminster on behalf of the London Tourist Board for her efforts to promote London tourism and the project “London, on £45.00 a day.” Early in her career, Evora worked for Textwells as a fashion designer, designed under her own label and later managed several boutiques in London. Upon returning to the US, she worked for both Bloomingdales and Macy’s before landing at the Society. In her spare time Evora enjoys, cooking, gardening, singing, and playing the piano.
