Staff Accountant II – Accounts Receivable

This job provides accounting support for the Society in the areas of Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and General Ledger. This includes transaction processing (invoices, cash receipts, credit cards, and collections); account reconciliations; preparing and processing journal entries; maintaining detailed tracking schedules, and assisting in the monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close.
Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks
- Manage the Cash Receipts process to ensure proper recording
- Prepare and process payments for Advertising, Permissions, and other Society invoices
- Manage the contribution/donations cash receipts process to ensure proper revenue recognition and tracking.
- Communicate with departments and vendors to resolve issues/discrepancies relating to invoices and payments
- Prepare and enter journal entries for month end
- Analyze and reconcile assigned general ledger accounts monthly (including accounts receivables, pledges receivable and other balance sheet and revenue accounts) for monthly closing process.
- Assist with financial audit as needed.
- Help maintain systems and files of subledger systems.
- Backup for A/P
- Other duties, as may be assigned
Competencies/Qualifications
- Candidate will have experience with general ledger (preferably with Sage MIP),
- Advance skills using spreadsheet (Excel), word processing and other Microsoft office software.
- Candidate will be detail oriented and able to handle multiple tasks.
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Experience with Fund Accounting is a plus
- Experience with not-for-profit accounting is preferred.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee usually works in an office setting. Our office is located near the Dupont Circle and Farragut North Metro stations. Due to the pandemic, the Society is operating on a hybrid work model.
Position Type and Expected Hours
This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday during normal office hours of the Society.
Required Education and Experience
- Candidate will preferably have a bachelor’s degree in accounting.
- Candidate will have 3-5 years in related experience in G/L, A/P, and A/R.
