At the Society, we strive to create a supportive, engaging community for STEM enthusiasts by providing extraordinary opportunities for students and educational entertainment for the readers of our publications, Science News and Science News for Students.

For more than 90 years, Science News has been an incredible source for concise, current and comprehensive coverage of all fields and applications of STEM. Science News for Students was started in 2003 as a youth companion to Science News. The Society also works with more than 2,000 student participants a year through our various science education programs: the Intel Science Talent Search, Intel International Science and Engineering Fair, and Broadcom MASTERS.

The students come from every background, from across the country and the globe, with two things in common- a strong love for STEM and a yearning to connect with other young people like them.

At the Society, we are thrilled to make these connections and provide educational opportunities that allow our readers and alumni to thrive both personally and professionally in the fields they love.

For years, we have been awarded the Top Nonprofit Award from Great Nonprofits. To earn this award, we must receive an exceptional number of positive reviews on the Great Nonprofits website from the public we serve.

My experience with SSP has been nothing short of amazing...

It’s always heartwarming to hear how we’ve positively touched the lives of our readers and alumni.

From readers: "I have been reading Science News for close to 40 years since I discovered it by accident in the periodicals section of my local library. Its succinct format and quality of information provides a service I've found no where else. It has helped me be a more informed citizen." - Rondl P. shared on July 13, 2014.

From students: “This past year, I had the opportunity to participate in two of Society for Science & the Public's high school research competitions (Intel STS and Intel ISEF). My experience with SSP has been nothing short of amazing…the Society has a tremendously positive impact on middle and high school students and their interests in science, technology, engineering, and math because they want to make science relevant, stimulating, and fun-- and they are very successful at their goal.” – nycsts2014 shared on June 20, 2014

From teachers: “The Society provides outstanding independent research opportunities for students with a focus in the sciences. Over the years, I have witnessed students at the high school I teach at approach ISEF with a great deal of excitement, stating that it is the "single best opportunity afforded to students at our school" and it does please me that it is available for those top science students.” – P. Hughes shared on June 27, 2014

From parents: “My son was a Finalist at Intel ISEF all four years of high school. He loved it! It was the greatest experience for him, competing and making friends from all over the world. Competing in science fairs helped him pay for college and to be an eloquent speaker and writer in college. He is now an engineer in part due to his involvement with the Society… This will be my 8th trip to ISEF to help out a great organization and I am already planning for 2016!” – ScienceMom08 shared on April 7, 2015
