Alumni Flashback- Science Talent Search 1947

This October, Martin Karplus, the “Top Boy” from the 1947 Science Talent Search, was named a recipient of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Karplus was the second alumnus of the STS Finalist Class of 1947 to win a Nobel Prize; the first was Leon Cooper, who won a Nobel Prize in Physics in 1972.

Recent SSP Alumni News

  • Meghan Shea (Intel STS 2013, Intel ISEF 2011) received the Next Generation Award from Popular Mechanics
  • Benjamin Hylak (2011 Broadcom MASTERS) and Raymond Gilmartin (2013 Broadcom MASTERS) had science fiction stories published in the Tomorrow Project anthology, “Cautions, Dreams, and Curiosities.”
  • Saumil Bandyopadhyay (Intel ISEF 2010, 2012, 2013) received the American Ingenuity Award from the Smithsonian
  • Grace Young (Intel ISEF 2010) was one of 34 winners of the Marshall scholarship, which will allow her to pursue two years of graduate studies in engineering science at Oxford
  • Eric Chen (Intel ISEF 2013) won the $100,000 Grand Prize in the Individual Category of the Siemens Competition. He previously won the Grand Prize at the Google Science Fair.
  • Multiple alumni were named Davidson Fellows
