The U.S. Agency for International Development will be offering a Special Award for the first time at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) in May 2014. Answers were provided by the USAID Office of Science and Technology.
Can you tell us about your organization and why scientific research is important to it? What made your organization decide to offer a special award at Intel ISEF?
Maria Elena Grimmett was a Broadcom MASTERS finalist in both 2011 and 2012. In 2012, she won the first place award in Mathematics. Maria also won a third award in Environmental Science at Intel ISEF 2013. She recently published her research in the Journal of Environmental Quality. Below she talks about her experiences in both SSP educational competitions and conducting research on water quality.
In 2011, Bonnie Lei from Walnut, CA was both an Intel Science Talent Search (Intel STS) and Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) finalist. At Intel ISEF, she received a Second Award in Animal Sciences. Bonnie is currently a student at Harvard University and co-founder of The Food Lab for Kids.
Zeyu Liu from Calgary, Canada won a trip to tour CERN, a trip to the European Union Contest for Young Scientists in Prague, a Best of Category Award in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, and the K. Soumyanath Memorial Award at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) 2013. Zeyu was also previously a finalist at Intel ISEF in 2011.
