Sci-Fi Battle Royale

Vote for your favorite science fiction movie, television show, book, or comic!

What is your favorite science fiction work? Now you can have your opinion heard. Starting this weekend, Society for Science & the Public (SSP) is running the Sci-Fi Battle Royale on Facebook, pitting 32 of the top science fiction works and franchises up against each other. They are a mixture of movies, TV shows, book and comics.

So, how does this work? For each matchup, we will be posting two status updates on Facebook, one for each competitor. Users can like and share each status update, and the update with the most combined likes and shares will win that matchup. There are five rounds all together and competitors are broken up into two sides of the bracket; one for movies and TV shows and another for books and comics.

Users will also be able to see if they can predict the winner of the SciFi Battle Royale by submitting a completed bracket to pthornton@societyforscience.org (download the bracket here) by midnight ET on Monday, September 2. The top five user-submitted predictions will win a year’s subscription to the digital edition of Science News, a publication of Society for Science & the Public. You must be 18 years old and up to enter.  Winners will be determined by the number of correctly predicted matchups.

We might finally get to know who is cooler: Captain Kirk or Han Solo.

Do you have your own science fiction ideas? Then enter The Future: Powered by Fiction! This science fiction competition, open to entrants worldwide between the ages of 13-25, asks participants to explore the kinds of futures we want to work toward together. Stories, essays, videos, and comics can be submitted until November 14, 2013 for a chance to win one of ten $1,000 prizes and have your work published online.
