Society for Science & the Public’s history of educational competitions reaches back to 1942, when the Science Talent Search was first held. It was soon joined by the National Science Fair, which became the International Science and Engineering Fair in 1958 when Japan, Canada, and Germany joined the competition. In addition, a competition for middle school students was added in the 1990’s.

SSP Named 4-Star Charity for 2014

This November, SSP received a 4-star ranking from Charity Navigator for the fourth consecutive year. Rankings are based on an evaluation of fiscal management, accountability, and transparency. SSP is one of only 6% of charities to receive this top ranking for four or more consecutive years.

Support the Society on #GivingTuesday 2013

SSP is participating for the second year in #GivingTuesday, a one-day fundraising effort held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, following Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

SSP Launches New Membership Options and Website

It has been a busy summer at SSP, as we have worked to advance “SSP 2.0” – a broad new vision for the organization developed over the past two years and focused on improving how we fulfill our mission of advancing scientific knowledge. 
 
Central to this vision is our new web presence, which better integrates our competitions and educational programming with our Science News family of publications.
