How to Help
Rick Bates has worked at the Society since 2006. He grew up in an environment focused on education and science, including countless hours spent outside exploring the wild and learning about everything in it. After graduating from Roanoke College, he took the opportunity to live close to nature in Alaska and later began a career in nonprofits, where he has focused for over a dozen years on building awareness and support of the importance and benefit of science and education programming to young people and our society.
Prior to his current position, Rick led fundraising efforts at Restore America’s Estuaries, National Law Center on Homelessness & Poverty, and the Joy of Sports Foundation.
