About the Society
Founded in 1921, Society for Science & the Public is a non-profit 501(c)(3) membership organization headquartered in Washington, D.C. The Society’s mission is to engage the public in science. Our vision is to promote the understanding and appreciation of science and the vital role it plays in human advancement: to inform, educate and inspire.
The Society, with approximately 70 staff members, is best known for its world class science competitions, including the Regeneron Science Talent Search, the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair and Broadcom MASTERS (Math, Applied Science, Technology and Engineering for Rising Stars). The Society also owns media properties, including the award-winning magazines Science News and Science News for Students.
Society for Science & the Public seeks an enthusiastic and innovative individual to serve in an Alumni Relations Specialist position. S/he will work within the Advancement department, reporting to the Director of Alumni Relations, and will be responsible for supporting the organization’s alumni communications, data and programming. The Alumni Relations Specialist will play a key role in helping the Society’s leadership implement a vision for the future of alumni engagement and the role of alumni within the Society.
In addition to the Director of Alumni Relations, the individual will have frequent interactions with the Chief Advancement Officer and Director of Major Gifts and will also have contact with the President and CEO. This is a full-time position, Monday-Friday (37.5 hours per week). Our office is in Dupont Circle, Washington, DC. The Society does not cover relocation costs.
Data Management and Research (50%)
Events Management (35%)
Assists with the selection, and supervision of the alumni intern.
The ideal Alumni Relations Specialist candidate will bring a balance of exceptional communication skills, event planning, organizational, and strong interpersonal skills. Comfortable interacting with senior level staff, alumni, and donors.
