Program Information

58th Annual STS (1998–1999)
Finalists
David C. Moore

David C. MooreDavid C. Moore, 18, of Potomac, used detailed quantum modeling techniques for his Intel Science Talent Search physics project, determining the electrical properties of a newly proposed design for molecular electronic switches. Such ultraminiature switches are of great interest to the electronic community because they promise digital logic circuits a million times smaller than today's tiniest conventional solid-state circuits. David determined the switch's most effective structure and verified its likely utility in a molecular electronic digital circuit. David is an Eagle Scout and a member of the track and cross country team. His hobbies include computer programming, which he put to use creating online programs for his church and his school, Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring, where he is the school network/system administrator. David's many awards include the Maryland Distinguished Scholar Scholarship Award and the Caltech Signature Award for Innovation in Math and Science. He scored a perfect combined score of 1600 on his SATs. The son of James and Barbara Moore, David plans to study electrical engineering at Duke University.
