Broadcom® MASTERS® (Math, Applied Science, Technology, and Engineering for Rising Stars), a program of Society for Science & the Public, is a national competition for middle school students. Students compete in their local or regional SSP-affiliated science fair where the top 10% of the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade participants are nominated to be a Broadcom MASTER. Broadcom MASTERS nominees are eligible to register and complete an online application to compete nationally for valuable prizes and awards.
To qualify to be a Broadcom MASTERS semifinalist or finalist, nominees must complete the online application. It consists of several essay questions where students explain their science project to demonstrate their use of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) principles in the development of their project and explain how they may apply science principles to everyday life.
SSP and Broadcom Foundation would like to thank all of the teachers, mentors, and science fairs who support the Broadcom MASTERS. Read this article to learn more about some of the teachers of the 2011 Broadcom MASTERS finalists. We hope that teachers/educators will encourage their student(s) to participate in science fairs and nominated students to complete the Broadcom MASTERS application.
In recognition of the essential role that teachers and school communities play in the creative process, Elmer’s, as the Official Classroom Partner of the Broadcom MASTERS, is offering prizes throughout the competition. These include up to $300 of savings off Elmer’s products for the classrooms of all Broadcom MASTERS’ nominees. Teachers, classrooms, and schools of Broadcom MASTERS semifinalists and finalists also receive gift cards and additional classroom supply offers.
