Tim B. Lundt grew up in Fort Collins, CO, and graduated from Colorado State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Avian Science. Lundt originally wanted to be a wildlife biologist, but when jobs were scarce he decided to work in the poultry industry. After deciding this was not his calling, he returned to ColoradoState University and earned his secondary biology science teaching certificate, as he had always enjoyed working with students.
He began teaching sciences for 7th-12th grade in McClave, CO, a small town. After teaching for two years he moved to Alaska, where he married his wife Debi and eventually settled in Palmer, Alaska to raise their two daughters. In Palmer, Lundy enjoyed running science fairs, teaching science, and coaching, but moved on to teach at Colony Middle School, and then Burchell High School, an alternative high school for at-risk youth. At Burchell, Lundy received grants that allowed him to provide unique hands on experiences to his students, such as radio collaring grouse, running a successful greenhouse, and salvaging meat from a road-killed moose. During this time he also helped develop Alaska’s first public astronomical observatory.
Currently, Tim teaches Physical Science and Biology at Mat-Su Career and Technical High School. He also coaches the Ocean Bowl and Science Olympiad teams (and serves as the Alaska State Science Olympiad Director), runs Stargate Observatory, and takes students on international trips to Belize and Costa Rica.
Over the past two years, the Society for Science & the Public Fellowship has provided equipment, supplies, and travel funds necessary for the students to perform research on the Alaska climate- bud moisture content, monitoring water quality, and moose research in association with the Alaska Moose Federation. Lundt’s students are also among the top competitors for Science Olympiad and the Alaska Tsunami Bowl, where they are required to research a subject, present findings and compete in a quiz bowl competition.
When Lundt isn’t teaching, he enjoys spending time with his family and fishing, hunting, biking, or cross country skiing in the great Alaska outdoors.
