Internships

1 - Science News Internships

Science News, the award-winning magazine covering all fields of science for a general readership, is now accepting applications for its science writer internships.

Interns work as full-time science writers under the guidance of Science News editors and writers. Based in Washington, D.C., Science News reports scientific findings and trends occurring worldwide. Interns generate many of their own story ideas, reporting and writing several articles per week, including news stories and longer features.

Former Science News interns have gone on to staff positions with the New York Times, the Washington Post, Science, Nature, Health, NOVA, Discover, Popular Science, U.S. News & World Report, Scientific American, ABC television, the Associated Press, the San Francisco Chronicle, and Science News, among others.

The internship is intended for people planning careers in science writing and is offered three times a year for at least a three-month stay within the following periods: spring (January to April), summer (May to August) and fall (September to December). One applicant will be selected for each period. Preference is given to people completing an advanced degree in journalism with an emphasis in science writing. Skilled writers working toward an advanced degree in one of the sciences and experienced journalists in transition to a science specialty are also considered. Interns receive $1,890 per month.

Applicants should send by e-mail a cover letter, résumé, names of three references and at least three science writing samples to:
